Learning for Serving
TCA students challenged to serve others and put their faith and learning into action.
On Wednesday, September 18th, our high school hosted a Service Learning Fair, where five local ministries shared their missions and service opportunities with our high school students. Representatives from Chester Heights Camp Meeting, Child Evangelism Fellowship Delco, CityTeam Ministries, Good Neighbors Home Repair, and the Greenhouse Project spoke to our students about how they can serve their communities. These organizations do vital work to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet the needs of the people in their communities. We are excited to partner with these ministries so that our students can take their learning outside of the classroom and put their beliefs into action.
At TCA, service is one of our core values. Each high school student is required to complete at least 10 hours of community service every year because we understand its importance. Service teaches our students to recognize the image of God in others, helping them develop empathy and a heart for their community. By stepping outside of their daily routines, they learn to serve selflessly and humbly, just as Jesus did (Mark 10:45). These experiences are not just about meeting a requirement; they are about living out the call to love our neighbors and “seek the good of the city” (Jer. 29:7).
Mrs. Sue Volikas, our Director of Admissions, is also our Service Learning Coordinator. In this role, she is working to connect students to opportunities that interest them and will make use of their God-given talents. This is an exciting opportunity for us here at TCA,” Mrs. Volikas says, “to put our faith into action and align our hearts with the call God has for each of us to walk alongside others. Our time is one of the biggest gifts we can give others and one of the ways we build community."
We are expanding the number of school-sponsored service events this year, offering even more opportunities for our students to put their learning and beliefs into action together. Through these partnerships, students will experience the positive influence they can have on the world around them, becoming compassionate leaders who serve with joy and purpose, impacting the world for Jesus Christ by the power of His Spirit.
