FACULTY & STAFF

Cheri Andrews

K-12th Grade Faculty

I’ve been at TCA for several years after teaching developmental reading to middle school students in Indiana. I graduated from Taylor University with a degree in Health and Physical Education and a minor in English and have done graduate work at West Chester University. I love coming to work every day because every day is different with its own challenges and joys. Every student that has crossed my path is unique and is valued in God’s eyes and I am grateful to have watched them grow through their struggles into Godly caring adults. How fun it has been to now get to teach some of their children! I appreciate working alongside teachers with a caring heart for every child that enters the doors of TCA. I’m an animal lover and my 96 year old mother and I share my home with Samuel Joseph, a 1 year old puppy, and cats Trooper, Peaches and Buster Allen. The rest of my family live in South Carolina. The beach is my happy place but lately Gatlinburg, TN has stolen my heart with its hometown charm and beauty. In my free time, I enjoy going to yard sales, landscaping, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and any type of water sports. I’m a huge college sports fan and my teams are the Florida Gators and Clemson Tigers. I’m looking forward to being back in person with the students and teachers!

I’m thrilled to return to TCA in a full time capacity this year working with our Concurrent Learning program in addition to filling in as a Sub and working with the Drama Department as I’ve done for the past several years. This is my silver anniversary as an educator and, while I’ve retired from classroom teaching for the past 21 years to raise my own family, I’ve kept busy gaining experience on 3 continents teaching ESL, Bible, Fitness, Drama & Outdoor Education classes as well as working on stage and film productions notwithstanding my full time job of soccer mom to 6 extraordinary kiddos (two of whom are now TCA alum) whom I raise with my life partner and hubby of 23 years, Jeff! (He’s amazing!) In my spare time he supports me caring for our family while I volunteer for Delco’s Blue Army which is a Citizen’s Corps providing emergency and disaster recovery relief. Originally a Philly girl, we’ve lived in Chester, Pa for the past decade. Not only do I love God’s Word, I’m passionate about applying it to all areas of life as I’ve profoundly experienced Jesus’s power to bring change within my own life. I seek to extend that same Hope to others. Hiking, biking, boating and caring for furry friends are some of my favorite activities but anything that draws me into God’s marvelous creation whether it’s outdoor grandeur or indoor calm with my loves is my happy place. Put a little ginger in my water and a power salad with a whole fruit smoothie in front of me I’ll keep it going just don’t sit me at a desk and expect me to stay there. I won’t. Can’t wait for whatever adventure the Lord has for us together this year! He is so good to us. All the time.

High School Faculty

I have known TCA since 2001 when I came here in 4th grade. Being an alumni of the school I can personally say that this school prepared me for both college and the world outside of TCA. The Lord called me back to in 2017 and I have been thankful ever since. I graduated from Cairn University with a bachelors in Social Studies education and Biblical Studies. My wife and I are both teachers and love everything Philadelphia from the food to the sports teams. I enjoy a good board game and any Marvel movie.

Lisa Contino

High School Faculty

I graduated from TCA in 2006. When I was in 10th grade, I knew I wanted to study mathematics and return to TCA as a high school math teacher. I studied mathematics at Messiah College, graduated in 2010, and began my teaching career in Milford, DE. I’ve taught 5th – 12th grade students in the classroom, through tutoring, and summer school. In 2017, I married my best friend, who sat three pews behind me in my home church, and moved back to Pennsylvania. I taught one year in inner-city Wilmington, DE and then in 2018, I was blessed by the Lord to return back to TCA to teach, as I had always wanted. It means so much to me to teach the content I love at the school I love. This summer I gave birth to my beautiful son, Sebastian. He’s currently 4 months old and 23 pounds (he’s a big dude!), and loves to play! I am excited to return to school (though I will miss my little boy, but he’s in good hands with his grandparents :)) and see my students! Thank you for the privilege of teaching your children – they are a blessing and joy to instruct!

The Christian Academy was my home for many years and I am eager to return to this community and offer everything I have. I am an alumnus from TCA and alumni of Eastern University. I have an ever-growing passion for music and a deep love for kids! I enjoy singing, hugs, bold & ONLY bold coffee, and snuggling up with my husband and our two Cavapoos: Mila + Mason! I cannot wait to see all of God’s never-ending plans unveiled through our faculty, through our students, and all throughout this school.

Tracy Doorly

Front Office

This year is my 13th year being involved in some way at The Christian Academy. I started out volunteering in the classroom, the office, going on field trips, helping teachers, prayer group meeting, etc.. I now have the best job -working in the school office for 5 years! My husband John and I discovered TCA when our oldest was in middle school. Since then we have sent all 4 of our kids to TCA- with 3 already graduated and the youngest a senior. It has been a huge blessing as a family to be apart of the TCA family and see our kids thrive here. One of my favorite things to do now with time off is visit two of my children who have moved away to amazing places to visit- Colorado and Massachusetts.

Deb Dutton

K-5th Grade Principal

I have a long history with TCA where I have been a student, a parent, a teacher and now an administrator. I have had the privilege of seeing TCA from many angles which has only deepened my love for the school community. I graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Elementary Education and received a Master degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Cairn University. I taught first grade before my husband and I started our family. I chose to stay home and with my four children until my youngest son was ready to come to school. I was excited to return to TCA as a middle school teacher. Coming to TCA each day brings joy to my life through the daily interactions and relationships with the students and my colleagues. I love the freedom to share God’s truths openly with the students and pray for them daily. While I enjoy reading on the beach, I also love to spend time with my family at our cabin in Potter County. I am a hometown girl when it comes to sports as I love watching the Eagles, Sixers and Phillies! In my role now as the elementary principal, it’s exciting to watch the growth that happens as the students embrace the truths they are being taught in the classrooms. I believe TCA creates an environment where all students can find value in the gifts God has blessed them with and I am grateful to be a part of that process.

I have the privilege this year of teaching second grade, which I taught before I had children of my own. I have 5 kids (3 of whom graduated from TCA) and have been married for 31 years. In my spare time, I enjoy a good movie or book, and listening to or singing along to music. Besides being a teacher at TCA, I am also alumni and was blessed with wonderful teachers who loved the Lord and prepared me well for college and beyond. I also came to know the Lord as my personal Savior during my first year at TCA in BIble class, so TCA has always been a vital part of my life.

I am so excited to join the faculty at TCA! This is my 22nd year as a teacher, and I have been fortunate enough to spend 12 of those years working in Christian education. I have taught pre-school through college, but teaching High School English has always been my passion (I love grammar, my favorite punctuation mark is the semi-colon, and in my free time, I like to diagram sentences!). I received my B. A. in Speech Communications from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN and have a Master’s degree in Education from West Chester University. My husband, Paul, is an advisor in the Graduate College of Technology at Wilmington University, as well as a pastor. He and I both also teach at WilmU. We have a daughter, Piper, who graduated high school in 2020 and will major in Business and Psychology at WilmU this fall. Our family also includes two rescue pit bulls, Pee Wee and Pax.

Michelle Griffith

PK Teacher

I am both humbled and delighted to be teaching in Pre-K at The Christian Academy. I have been married to my husband Al for 24 years and together we have five children, ranging in age from 4 to 18, all of whom have been students here. I have a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries from Grove City College and have been serving in children’s ministry for 28 years. It has brought me great joy to be able to teach all of my children how to read – one of the ways God has allowed us to explore and enjoy the world around us. I enjoy watching movies with my kids, reading a classic or good spy novel, mid-morning hot coffee, and Sunday naps. Many things make me cry, and even more things make me laugh. God is good.

Support

I first came to TCA as a second grade student, and have been assisting elementary teachers since middle school, when I chose Teacher’s Aide for the Friday afternoon activity period. I love used book shopping with my husband Todd. I will want to lay eyes on every book in the store, but you’re most likely to find me in the Biography/Memoir and YA aisles. One of my quarantine purchases was a beautiful lap harp, so I’ve been enjoying learning to pluck out some of my favorite songs. My son Micah (a prolific reader himself) graduated from TCA in 2018 and is happy to be back on campus this fall at Cedarville University.

Rod Haseltine

Athletic Director, 6-12th Grade Physical Education

I have been part of TCA for a long time. I went to TCA from pre-K to 12th grade (minus my eighth grade year) and then started teaching at TCA right after college. Lynn and I have been married for 29 incredible years. My oldest son, Brit, graduated from TCA and now works at NAVSEA (a department of the Navy). Lindsay, my only daughter, also graduated from TCA and is now a junior at Messiah University. Colton (10th grade) and Jackson (8th grade) still attend TCA. I am the athletic director and I believe athletics is another avenue to honor the Lord with the abilities He has given us. I am looking forward to seeing the returning students and meeting the new ones.

I look forward to welcoming all of our students and new families back and am excited to see what God has planned for this school year.

School Faculty

I am thrilled to call The Christian Academy my new home and grateful to God to be able to use the gift that He has given me to serve the TCA students, parents, faculty and board members.  I am happily married to my husband of almost 21 years and have four children (all who attend TCA with the exception of my oldest who graduated last school year).  I have a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish and have taken several graduate courses.  Before I became a full-time teacher, I managed a cleaning company.  In 2012, I had the opportunity to work in an elementary school in my local school district as an ESL Paraprofessional which later led me to teaching Spanish to middle school aged children in the federally funded 21st Century afterschool program.  I love entertaining and being with my family, traveling, serving in outreach ministries, crafting, repurpose/upcycling, event planning and reading.  I am looking forward to an exciting yet fulfilling school year where each student can grow both academically and spiritually.

I am thrilled to be returning for another year at The Christian Academy. This will be my fourth year teaching and I have loved every minute of it. I have spent most of my time in fourth grade with a brief and wonderful stint in Middle School. I have been dubbed the crazy plant teacher as my classroom boasts an easy 15+ plants ranging from an enormous 7 foot tall bird of paradise (affectionately named Fern) to the tiniest succulents. I graduated in 2017 from Cedarville University with my bachelors in Early Childhood Elementary with a 4-5th Grade endorsement. I am currently working on my Masters of Reading and my Reading Specialist Certificate through Widener University and it is a joy to be a student again! Outside of school, my husband and I are high school sweethearts and enjoy leading our church’s Middle and High School youth group, puzzles, and taking long walks. Madison Nazario

School Nurse

This will be my 14th year at TCA, but my first year serving as the School Nurse. God has placed in me a deep love and desire to care for people in every aspect of life. Through obtaining an Associate Degree in both Applied Science and Nursing from Delaware Technical Community College, God has equipped me with the proper tools to take care of people in an emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological capacity. Along with receiving two Associate Degrees, I have also completed and passed a national council licensure examination for registered nurses. This year has been full of new seasons and I am very excited that God has blessed me with a loving, kindhearted future husband who I will be marrying this October! I am thrilled about starting a new school year and being able to create lasting relationships with students and provide them with the health care they need.

Kim Peltz

Elementary Classroom Aide

I started working at TCA 15 years ago when my youngest daughter, Makayla began kindergarten. My oldest daughter, Kaleigh was in sixth grade at that time. Kaleigh is now a music teacher in Maryland and Makayla is a student at Clarks Summit University after attending Word of Life Bible Institute for a year. My husband, Mark, is a music teacher, as well, and the marching band director with the Interboro School District. He and I met while attending Liberty University. We have been married for 30 years. We attend Aldan Union Church. In my spare time, I enjoy flower and vegetable gardening and preserving the fruits of my harvest in the Fall. I also enjoy reading, quilting, and just being creative.

Deanna Pfau

Elementary Faculty

Salvete! (Hello to you all!), I teach Latin to our 3rd-5th graders here at the Academy, and this fall marks my 12th year of teaching at TCA. I have been married to my best friend Michael for 36 years, have 2 grown daughters, both TCA grads (Danae Messick, class of ’09, Grace, class of ’18). I know exactly why God has me here on assignment because I feel His pleasure when I teach and when I nurture the lives of young children. When I’m not teaching, I’m pursuing personal growth, recovery and service to those who still suffer from addiction. When I’m having fun, I’m usually laughing at the silliest things imaginable, watching my cares melt away in the full sunshine of my grandson’s smile or rolling around on the floor with two cute but utterly demanding grand pups named Murphy and Maggie.

Head of School/School Counselor

It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Head of School at The Christian Academy. I attended The Christian Academy as a student for 12 years and I don’t know where I would be today without the influence of the Christian teachers, friends, and families that poured into me as I was growing up. I have a varied professional background as a teacher, administrator, school counselor, board member, college professor, college administrator, and head of school. My husband is an assistant athletic director, P.E. teacher, and a head football coach. We have two children. Our oldest son is 25 and is an engineer. He is married and his wife is a teacher in our preschool program at TCA. Our youngest son is 24 and is in the production industry. We have three dogs Lexey, Gracey, and Bailey, and I would have many more if my husband didn’t put a moratorium on the dog acquiring activities. I love animals (especially dogs), the beach, reading, watching TV, hanging out with friends, and pre-COVID, we loved to cruise (yes, on a boat). I am grateful to be serving the families and students at TCA.

I’m extremely grateful that my parents recognized the value of a Christian education and made sacrifices to send me to TCA from the time I was in Kindergarten. Christine Uzele

6-12th Grade Art Teacher

I can’t believe this will be my 10th year teaching art at TCA! Art has always been a part of my life since I was two years old doodling on my Mom’s bulletin at church. I received my degree in art at the University of Delaware and now painting and drawing and sharing my art as a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ is what I do. While I was on a missions trip in Kenya I met my wonderful husband Shem and we wrote letters back and forth for 2 1/2 years before we got married 27 years ago! We have 3 amazing children and live in Wilmington Delaware. I love teaching art and I love my family, but most of all I love Jesus!

Debbie Wilt

Elementary School Faculty

My name is Debbie Wilt and this is my twenty ninth year teaching Kindergarten at TCA. I came to TCA in the 6th grade and I became a Christian during a chapel program here. After graduating College,I came back to my alma mater and began teaching here. After meeting my husband through a school parent we married and moved out of the area. When we returned to the area we began our family and I stayed home with them. When it was time for them to start school we naturally looked into TCA. I also thought it might be a good time for me to start teaching again. I was hired as one of the Kindergarten teachers and have been here ever since. Both of our children graduated from TCA and are now married and have blessed my husband and I with 2 beautiful granddaughters. As you can see The Christian Academy has been an important part of my life. God certainly had a plan for a young 6th grader.
