Student Support Services

Ruth Brittain
Middle School Math, Science and Bible Teacher
I’m thrilled to return to TCA in a full time capacity this year working with our Concurrent Learning program in addition to filling in as a Sub and working with the Drama Department as I’ve done for the past several years. This is my silver anniversary as an educator and, while I’ve retired from classroom teaching for the past 21 years to raise my own family, I’ve kept busy gaining experience on 3 continents teaching ESL, Bible, Fitness, Drama & Outdoor Education classes as well as working on stage and film productions notwithstanding my full time job of soccer mom to 6 extraordinary kiddos (two of whom are now TCA alum) whom I raise with my life partner and hubby of 23 years, Jeff! (He’s amazing!) In my spare time he supports me caring for our family while I volunteer for Delco’s Blue Army which is a Citizen’s Corps providing emergency and disaster recovery relief. Originally a Philly girl, we’ve lived in Chester, Pa for the past decade. Not only do I love God’s Word, I’m passionate about applying it to all areas of life as I’ve profoundly experienced Jesus’s power to bring change within my own life. I seek to extend that same Hope to others. Hiking, biking, boating and caring for furry friends are some of my favorite activities but anything that draws me into God’s marvelous creation whether it’s outdoor grandeur or indoor calm with my loves is my happy place. Put a little ginger in my water and a power salad with a whole fruit smoothie in front of me I’ll keep it going just don’t sit me at a desk and expect me to stay there. I won’t. Can’t wait for whatever adventure the Lord has for us together this year! He is so good to us. All the time.

Elementary Academic Enrichment
I am a 2004 graduate from The Christian Academy. I am married to my high school sweetheart, who also graduated from TCA. We have three children all of which will be attending TCA this year and I am blessed that I will be able to share this time with them, while also working for TCA. I graduated from Wilmington University with a B.S in Psychology. I love going to the shore with my family and spending time with friends. I am thrilled to be a part of the Student Support Team where I will be helping the elementary school students with social emotional learning. I will also be providing the student who need additional education support and enrichment. I am excited to see what God has in store for me this year.

Diana Howard
Curriculum Coordinator and Media Specialist
I have been in the education field for the last 26 years. This is my 13th year at The Christian Academy. Before being blessed to serve at TCA as the Media Specialist, I served as Dean of Students, as well as taught 1st and 3rd grades. I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Millersville University and my master’s in Educational Leadership and Administration from Cairn University. My husband of 23 years and I have two adult sons and one very spoiled Boxer puppy. My youngest son is a graduate of TCA. I enjoy spending time with my family cheering on our favorite teams the Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Eagles and being active in my church. When time permits, I love relaxing on the beach listening to the waves while reading a good book. I look forward to welcoming all of our students and new families back and am excited to see what God has planned for this school year.

LaWanda Swan
Director of Student Services and Professional School Counselor
I attended TCA from the 1st-12th grade. I have served as a Board of Trustees Member and now have the privilege to serve as the Director of Student Services as well as the School Counselor. I am grateful to The Lord for this full circle experience after being in the education field for almost 15 years. To encourage others in their God given abilities and giftings and to help them navigate the obstacles of life is one of my passions. I have served in many ministry capacities including, preaching and teaching the Word of God, church planting, pastoring, hosting a radio show, and singing on various Praise Teams. I am married to Darryl, and together we have 6 children, one son-in-law, 3 granddaughters and one dog, Browneye. With my husband, I have been blessed to be an entrepreneur and have several businesses. We are licensed in the financial services industry and love helping people change their personal economies for the better. I enjoy watching sports, especially football; and yes, my team is the Philadelphia Eagles. Fly Eagles Fly! Almost daily, you can find me drinking a hot cup of tea and reading. I love meeting The Lord near the water, fall colors, butterflies, hearts, music and singing. I thank God for His faithfulness!!
